The Time Warner Center is a vast real estate complex from which two twin glass towers emerge. They rise to 751 feet high.
Located in New York, this complex is intended for mixed-use. It houses the Time Warner studios, apartments, a shopping mall, offices, and the Mandarin Oriental hotel.
The Time Warner Center Complex
The Time Warner Center is located at 10 Columbus Circle in Manhattan. Very large, it is the junction between several districts (Midtown, Hell’s Kitchen, and Upper West Side). The steel structure is completely covered with glass.
The project took many years to get off the ground, mainly because of legal problems between the owners and the sponsors.
Finally, the work began on November 2, 2000, and the inauguration took place on October 4, 2003. The project was entrusted to the architects David Childs and Mustafa Kemal Abadan of the firm Skidmore, Owings, and Merrill.
The twin towers of the Time Warner Center are the first skyscrapers to be built after the 2001 attacks. Their similarity is interpreted as an American victory and a symbol of the resilient and fighting spirit of New Yorkers.
The Time Warner Center in figures
The building is intended for mixed-use. It occupies an area of 260,000 square meters spread over 55 floors. In the basement are the Time Warner studios and a CNN studio.
The base of the complex is occupied by a shopping center. The “Shops at Columbus Circle” houses a food market, restaurants, and numerous stores.
This commercial space is also present in a long and wide corridor that unites the stores located in each of the towers.
A 30-meter wide and 50-meter high building connects the twin towers. The Mandarin Oriental hotel is located between the 35th and 54th floors. Finally, the Time Warner Center houses a large performance hall with 6,000 seats that is managed by the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts.
