The Discovery Times Square Museum is definitely closed.

Discovery Times Square Museum (DTS) is a large cultural space dedicated to exhibits with unique themes in an educational and immersive way.

The museum is located in the basement of the Times Square Building, where The New York Times used to print. It is one of three museums that are concentrated around Times Square; the other two being Madame Tussauds and Ripley’s Believe It or Not.

The spirit of the Discovery Times Square Museum exhibitions

The Discovery Times Square Museum was inaugurated on 24 June 2009. This cultural space has 5500 m². It houses temporary exhibitions while offering a discovery related to the arts, history or certain current events.

Discovery Times Square aims to present rare exhibitions that small local museums cannot house due to lack of space or budget.

Major events

However, through the interaction it creates with its visitors, Discovery Times Square is more than just a museum. Epic moments from our history or the future we invent for ourselves come to life and connect us to unexpected situations.

Recent events at the cultural centre include Titanic: The Artifact Exhibition (2009-10), Leonardo da Vinci’s Workshop (2009-10), King Tut (2010-11), Pompeii, Life and Death in the Shadow of Vesuvius (2011), Harry Potter: The Exhibition (2011-13), The Dead Sea (2011-12), Terracotta Warriors: the Defenders of China’s First Emperor (2012), The Art of the Brick (Lego exhibition in 2013-14), AVENGERS STATION the Marvel exhibition (2014-) and, most recently, The Hunger Games.

Current exhibitions

Currently, the museum hosts 3 exhibitions, Body Work, The Viking Experience and above all Star Wars and The Power of Costume where you can discover 70 different costumes handcrafted and made to measure for each actor.

This legendary wardrobe covers the first 6 episodes of the series imagined by George Lucas. You will admire Darth Vader’s mask, Queen Amidala’s sumptuous robes or Princess Leia’s two-piece swimming costume, but also seven costumes that were used in the most recent Star Wars film “The Force Awakens”.
