Pier 4 is a sandy beach, ideal for sunbathing or making sandcastles. Please note that swimming or wading is not permitted in this part of Brooklyn Bridge Park.
Presentation of Pier 4 Beach
The design of the beach incorporates innovative structures created by the company ECOncrete to recreate natural tides. They stretch along the rocky shores, some of which are set up on the beach to study the marine life and flora of the park. Visitors can also launch non-motorised boats from the site.
Just off the beach is Bird Island, an inaccessible nature reserve. Many migratory birds come here throughout the year. The island also has three pools of water and an osprey platform set up to attract large fishing birds. A real paradise for birdwatchers!
Bird Island also has a variety of shrubs, grasses, trees and other native species. Rocks surround the edge of the island to protect the beach.
How to get there?
It is the closest beach to Manhattan and can be reached by public transport with the A and B or C or B and F subways, allow 45 minutes if you leave from Central Park.
