Newark Airport is located in New Jersey. It takes between 30 and 60 minutes to travel the 30 miles from the airport to New York.

How do I get to Manhattan from Newark Airport?

Newark Liberty International Airport is located in the state of New Jersey, 26 km from New York City. It is the second largest airport in the New York City area in terms of travellers and destinations served after JFK International Airport.

By AirTrain and metro

The AirTrain and underground are the most economical option for getting from Newark Airport to Manhattan. However, it is not the fastest or most convenient option, as you will have to walk short distances several times with all your luggage, especially between the AirTrain terminal and the underground station, or between the underground station and your accommodation.

The AirTrain picks up passengers from all Newark’s terminals before heading to the airport’s main station and then on to Newark Penn Station.

From there, you can take the PATH (the underground line that connects New Jersey and New York). The NJ Transit line terminates at the World Trade Center station (34 th Street/7th Avenue). Its stops are Journal Square, Grove Stret and Exchange Place.

Each of these stations allows you to change your destination with multiple connections. The cost of this trip is approximately $12 and it will take you about 40 minutes

By shuttle

This is one of the most sensible solutions, as it combines convenience, comfort and economy. A shuttle can take up to 8 passengers. Each of these passengers will be dropped off in front of their hotel. This is both an advantage and a disadvantage, since from the airport to the door of the accommodation there is no other transport to use.

But you will also have to be patient as the order of arrival at the hotel is very variable. The first traveller to get off the train will only take 40 minutes to be dropped off in front of the hotel. For the others, it will depend on the route taken.

Because of the cost-sharing principle, the shuttle price is very affordable and does not exceed $22. Book your shuttle transfer.

By bus

The Olympia Airport Express bus company takes passengers from Newark Airport to the Port Authority Bus Terminal, serving Grand Central and Penn Station.
The fare is $15 and it takes 40 minutes to travel between the two terminals.

If you live far from the points served, you will have to take a train or underground. However, these stops are stations and train stations, so you won’t have to walk far to reach your next mode of transportation.

By taxi

In principle, you will not be able to take one of the famous Yellow Cabs that are seen in all the films made in New York. New York taxis are not allowed to take customers outside New York State. However, you can identify genuine New Jersey taxis by looking for their licence on the bonnet of the vehicle.

It takes about 30-45 minutes to reach a hotel, but this is a very rough estimate as it depends on the location of your hotel. The price to pay will be about $70 ($50 for the ride and the rest for tolls and the traditional tip of about 15% of the total).

Please note that the Metrocard Unlimited Ride 7-days Metrocard is not allowed on the New Jersey public transportation system and therefore cannot be used to ride the PATH.
