La Guardia Airport is the smallest of New York’s airports. It is reserved for domestic flights.
How to get to Manhattan from La Guardia Airport?
La Guardia opened in 1939 as a small airfield before becoming a major New York City airport. It is located in the borough of Queens, 13 km from Manhattan.
It is limited to US domestic flights and a few flights whose airports perform pre-clearance operations (Canada, Bahamas, Bermuda…).
The airport’s two runways can only accommodate medium-haul aircraft. There are no international flights at LaGuardia. The name of the airport pays tribute to Fiorello Enrico LaGuardia (1882-1947) who was mayor of the city from 1934 to 1945.
By bus
The M60 bus route passes through each of the airport’s terminals before heading to Manhattan. The terminus is on the Upper West Side at 125th Street.
From there you can take the metro or another bus to your hotel. It takes about 30 minutes and $2 per passenger. These buses run from 5 a.m. to 1 a.m.
By metro
La Guardia Airport does not have a metro station. You must therefore take the Q70 bus to get off at the Victor Moore stop. Two underground lines to Manhattan are then available, the E line and the F line.
By taxi
The ride from La Guardia Airport to midtown Manhattan will take about 40 minutes and cost $45 ($30 metered plus tolls and the traditional 15% tip). This is a great option for small groups of 2 or 3 travellers.
In the airport, follow the directional signs to the taxi stop. To be sure you’re taking a real New York taxi, the vehicle should be yellow and its licence number should appear on the body.
Private transfert (small)
What could be better than leaving the airport and seeing a driver waiting to take you into the centre of Manhattan? This is possible with private transfers, which are convenient for avoiding the hustle and bustle of the airport exit. By booking it in advance online, you can spend a little extra money on sightseeing. Expect to pay between 70 and 90€ for a group of 3 people.
In a limousine
It is the most luxurious and comfortable form of transportation. Booking a limousine service from La Guardia Airport to Manhattan costs about $150. If you are travelling with 4 or 5 people, the price per person becomes very affordable. Remember to book a limousine transfer before you leave.
Rent a car
If you rented a car when you arrived at the airport, you can pick it up at the car rental counter located within the airport. It takes about 30 minutes to get to midtown Manhattan by this means.
The price of a car rental in New York is relatively expensive and in addition there are constant parking meter charges when the car has to be parked.
