Every summer on July 4th, the United States celebrates Independence Day with great fanfare. In New York, it’s Macy’s fireworks that marks this patriotic day with an impressive pyrotechnic spectacle. The 2025 edition promises to be a summer highlight with musical performances, innovative staging, and a unique atmosphere along the East River.
An Iconic Tradition Since 1976
Macy’s fireworks show was first launched in 1976 to commemorate the bicentennial of American independence. Since then, it has become one of New York’s largest free events. In 2025, this will be the 49th edition of this legendary show, still produced by Macy’s Studios in partnership with Pyro Spectaculars by Souza.
More than 80,000 pyrotechnic shells will be fired over the East River, featuring 30 different colors and stunning visual effects. The city will pulse with music and the applause of crowds gathered to witness this grand moment.

Date, Schedule, and Launch Location
In 2025, the fireworks will take place on Friday, July 4th. The program will begin at 8 PM with a televised show, followed by the fireworks launch at 9:25 PM. The central focus of the spectacle will be the Brooklyn Bridge area, with launches from the bridge itself as well as from barges anchored on the East River.
Contrary to certain rumors, the fireworks are not moving to the Hudson River this year. Jen Neal, Vice President of NBC Universal, confirmed that the 2025 show will indeed take place in the iconic setting of the East River and Brooklyn Bridge.
High-Level Artistic Programming
Macy’s 2025 fireworks isn’t just a fireworks display: it’s a complete spectacle broadcast live on NBC and Peacock. This year, the host is Ariana DeBose, Oscar-winning actress and rising Broadway star.
The musical performances promise to be exceptional with confirmed appearances by the Jonas Brothers, Eric Church, Lenny Kravitz, Ava Max, Keke Palmer, and Trisha Yearwood. These artists will perform live before the fireworks launch, with the Rooftop at Pier 17 in the Seaport District as their backdrop.
A Soundtrack by Questlove
During the fireworks, a 25-minute soundtrack will accompany the launches. It was specially created by Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson and James Poyser. The musical work, themed around resilience, community, and shared connection, will be synchronized with each pyrotechnic burst.
Ariana DeBose will also lend her voice with a live vocal performance during the broadcast. The show will feature references to the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics and the return of the NBA to NBC.

Practical Tips for Making the Most of July 4th
Plan Your Arrival
To hope for a good spot in a free area, it’s recommended to arrive by 3 PM. New Yorkers are used to coming early with picnics, coolers, and even folding chairs. Some areas may reach maximum capacity by early evening.
Bring several water bottles, a hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen. July 4th is often very hot, and lines to buy drinks are long.
Communication and Safety
With thousands of spectators gathered, the mobile network is often overloaded. It’s helpful to set a meeting point with your group in case you get separated. Don’t hesitate to download an offline map on your phone or print out an area map.
The New York Police Department (NYPD) will have a strong presence to ensure security. Searches may occur at viewing area entrances. Hard coolers, large bags, and glass containers are generally prohibited.
A moment shared across the country
Macy’s fireworks are broadcast live on NBC and Peacock starting at 8 PM (New York time). A rebroadcast is scheduled for 10 PM, and Telemundo will offer a Spanish-language version from 9-10 PM.
Millions of viewers across the United States follow this show each year. As Will Coss, executive producer of the show, emphasized: “We light up the sky and create tradition, bringing together millions of people across the country for a shared experience and memories.”
