If you’re going to New York in March, you probably have a lot of questions about the trip. First of all, is it a good time to go? What are the most interesting attractions to visit? What about New York events not to be missed in March 2025? We tell you everything here in this guide.

Going to New York in March 2025

New York in March is synonymous with transition and change. A change of season, which of course brings with it a new climate. After the freezing days of January and February, the temperatures are getting warmer as the weeks go by. But as it is still a bit cold, a word of advice: take a coat and an umbrella with you, as it can rain at times.

Even if the first rays of sunshine are always delayed at the beginning, March is a rather favourable month for a trip to New York. And if you’re in NYC during the last weeks of March, you’ll see the first glimmer of sunshine, which will make your stay much more enjoyable.

Overall, there’s plenty to keep you busy: you’ll be able to visit all the must-see places in the city and discover some great events with a few perks that we’ll list.

Like the first few months of the year, New York is still quiet in March. Because few visitors make the trip around the winter season. As such, it’s the ideal time if you prefer a quiet stay with a much milder climate than the one at the beginning of the year and during the high seasons from April to August.

Note: During March, there is a slight increase in the price of travel and accommodation compared to January and February, but prices are still affordable.

Another important advantage is that you avoid the long queues at the entrance to major attractions such as the Statue of Liberty, the Empire State Building and museums. In one day, you can do as many activities as you likes.

The New York programme in March 2025

Throughout the year, New York offers unique visitor experiences. But some programmes are still more interesting in March. For the reasons mentioned above: the sites are less crowded, the weather is milder and the prices are still reasonable. So all the conditions are there for a pleasant stay that suits you, your wishes and your travel budget. Let’s take a look at what to expect in New York in March 2025.

Stroll to the rhythm of the seasons

Early March is always a bit of a winter in New York, so head to the city’s ice rinks for some ice skating.

Because the weather is better at this time of year, you can take a short boat ride to see the city’s beautiful sights.

As spring approaches, many of New York’s attractions are worth a visit. This change of season is a perfect time to take a walk in New York’s parks, where the greenery comes back to life and the trees start to bloom. Must-see sites: Central Park, the High Line, Little Island, Domino Park, to name but a few

To see New York City in a different way, take the hop-on hop-off bus ride. From the rooftop terrace, you’ll have exceptional views. It’s also a unique opportunity to take pictures from 4 to 5 meters above the ground.

The cultural events

St. Patrick’s Day

In March, the highlight of the month is St. Patrick’s Day, which is celebrated on the 17th. Take the opportunity to visit the parade organised by the Irish community in New York in memory of Saint Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland.

Take in one of the Broadway shows: Phantom of the Opera, Chicago, The Lion King, Aladdin on Broadway or Hamilton.

If you’re in New York during March, you can also visit the Macy’s Flower Show celebrating the arrival of spring.

During your stay, you can take a guided tour. During this tour, an English guide will accompany you and share his knowledge of the city’s most beautiful neighbourhoods: Meatpacking District, Greenwich Village, Soho, Harlem and many others.

Sports events

Take in a game of basketball (NBA), ice hockey (NHL) or the MLS soccer championship, which starts in March.

NBA Basketball : Knicks or Nets?

In New York, you have two basketball teams, the famous New York Knicks who play at Madison Square Garden and are having an excellent 2024-2025 season. Or the Brooklyn Nets, who are not doing so well in the league at the moment, but are just as irresistible when they play at home in the Barclays Center.

Check the Knicks calendar to see if a match matches your dates of stay:

If you’re on a tight budget, it’s worth taking a look at the prices to see the Nets play:

Not a fan of the orange ball, preferring the black puck in a cool, electric atmosphere? The New York Rangers are there for you.

NHL: a hockey match with Rangers?

The New York Rangers, who are enjoying a fine 2024-2025 season and are currently ranked 6th in the Eastern Conference, guarantee you’ll be in for a real treat. Don’t forget to dress warmly – this is ice hockey! 😉

Soccer is the sport on the up in the United States, especially since the arrival of Lionel Messi! And the timing is perfect, because the Major League Soccer championship kicks off in March, and with its two teams, New York has plenty to keep you entertained.

Attend a soccer match?

You can opt for the historic team bought up in 2010 by the famous energy drink, the New York Red Bulls, who play in their new stadium, the Red Bull Arena, in New Jersey.

If you prefer the Bronx and its Yankee Stadium, they’re just waiting for you to come and support the players of New York City FC.

Aside from the sporting side of these activities, they’re a real spectacle for locals and visitors alike, whether they’re sports fans or not.

If you’d prefer to watch a typical American sport, the Baseball Championship (MLS) resumes at the end of March.

Attend a baseball game

If that’s the case, head to the Bronx to see the famous New York Yankees play in their striped tunics at the start of their season on 27 March 2025.

Other events not to be missed in March

Like the rest of the year, there is no time to get bored as there is so much to see and do in NYC in March. The schedule includes parades, shows, concerts and lots of small events celebrated every day… You can add them to your itinerary if you are visiting New York during this time. Many events can be booked online.

Cherry Blossoms or Cherries in bloom

The cherry blossoms are an ephemeral spectacle that transforms New York into a pink paradise every spring. Generally, this floral explosion begins at the end of March (it was on 19 March in 2022) and reaches its peak at the beginning of April, depending on the weather conditions.

Where can you enjoy this?

The Brooklyn Botanic Garden is home to an impressive collection of cherry trees, with over 200 trees of 26 different species. The Japanese Garden and Cherry Esplanade are particularly spectacular. For a less crowded experience, the Roosevelt Island Cherry Blossom Festival offers a breathtaking view of Manhattan surrounded by cherry blossom trees.
