The history of Brooklyn Heights

Brooklyn Heights is one of New York’s oldest and most iconic neighbourhoods. Its history dates back to the early 19th century, when, thanks to the opening of the Fulton ferry in 1814, it became the first residential suburb in the United States. Wealthy New York families settled here to enjoy a peaceful setting while remaining close to Manhattan. As you stroll along its streets, you’ll notice the brownstone houses, known as brownstones, which bear witness to the elegance and prosperity of the district at the time.
